Pullman Farmers Market Moves in New, Online Direction
The Pullman Farmers Market will be taking on a new name and format starting in March, after a recent change in leadership.
The Pullman Good Food Co-op (PGFC) Board of Directors voted on February 17 to take on responsibility and sponsorship of the farmers market from the Pullman Chamber of Commerce effective April 1. The Pullman Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the farmers market for over a decade.
Marie Dymkoski, Executive Director of the Pullman Chamber of Commerce, approved the move stating, “This collaboration with the Pullman Good Food Co-op is the right move for the Pullman Farmers Market.”
The market will be renamed Pullman Market Monday, which will use the online portal rekohub.com to provide customers with a wide variety of local and regional meat, produce, and other food products on a weekly basis. All orders placed on https://rekohub.com/buyer-market-detail/914 by Fridays at Noon, will be available for pickup at Terracotta Pullman in Downtown Pullman the following Monday from 4-6 p.m. All orders not picked up by 6 p.m. will be surrendered and donated to local food pantries.
The first pick-up date will be Monday, March 10, at Terracotta, with orders due by Noon on Friday, March 7.
“By having local customers place their orders in advance, they’ll know exactly what they’re getting in their box on Monday afternoons, and be able to pick it all up in one place as a one-stop shop,” said Matt Smylie, PGFC Board member and Secretary. “And by providing local farmers/producers with those orders days in advance, they’ll be able to optimize their production and harvesting, and minimize the time they spend off the farm.”
The final in-person farmers market will be on March 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lumberyard Food Hall.
“This transition is a massive win for our community,” said Link, who is also a PGFC Board member. “Customers have become accustomed to shopping for groceries online and picking up their orders. Now they can have that same convenient experience with all local food. Our food producers are thrilled to be optimizing their time and energy by only needing to prepare the needed orders each week. This optimization has allowed us to attract additional vendors to the online market who can offer additional local food options for consumers. Serving on each of these boards allowed me to see how this change fits perfectly with the mission of PGFC to supply local food options to our community.”
While implementing this change to the local farmers market experience, the PGFC Board continues to search Pullman for a physical location for the food co-op. The Board welcomes anyone with questions, suggestions, or interest in volunteering for PGFC to contact them at hello@pullmangoodfoodcoop.com.
